I realized recently how long it’s been since I’ve done a fitness/athleisure post here on the blog! Honestly, I spend the large majority of my days in workout wear or something sporty with sneakers. It’s just what makes me feel most comfortable as I’m getting things done around town or in the studio here.

I recently took the plunge and signed up for Fabletics, ’cause I mean if Kate Hudson gives it her seal of approval who am I to turn the other way, right? Seriously, how great does she make EVERYTHING look?! Kills me.

But I digress.

So, I jumped in and my first purchase was this sporty drawstring hoodie dress and you guys, I couldn’t be happier with it! It fits my style to a T and I was really pleased with the quality and design details. So, needless to say, I’m kinda looking forward to shopping with them again next month.

Along with letting you guys know about my first experience with Fabletics, I also thought it might be fun to share 3 things that keep me on track when it comes to my fitness game. While I’ve always been a pretty fairly active person since I was a child, I’ve really made it a solid lifestyle for the past five years. So, today I thought I would share a few things that I stick with to maintain success in this area of my life.

1) My workout schedule is NOT flexible

Ok, I know this sounds harsh and exceptions DO occasionally happen, but for the most part, I stick to a very strict routine when it comes to workouts. So that means that if I have a meeting/appointment to attend or errands to run in a day, they get scheduled in AROUND my workouts, as opposed to the other way around. I treat my workouts as important must-do’s and prioritize them accordingly, because while workouts help to keep me from buying bigger clothes, it just also makes me feel happy with myself and about my body. There’s no better feeling that knowing I’ve completed a good workout where I know I’ve pushed my self as far as I can, healthfully.

Now, I am a stay at home mom and blogger, so I realize my schedule has a WHOLE LOT more flexibility than those of you ladies who are working full time outside of the home. But, just try to make it a scheduled event in your day like you do with lunch or checking emails. It’s tough at first, but it will honestly just become rote for you and it’ll feel weird to skip it after a while.

2) First thing on the morning agenda

So, for me, I wake up and immediately get my workout clothes on, get the kiddos ready for school, drop them off and then head straight to my workout. Some days that means meeting with my personal trainer(she’s awesome, by the way!) and some days that means attending my weekly back to back gym classes. Honestly, if I didn’t do it first thing in the morning, it would be SO much easier to find a “reason” not to be able to make it to them. So, while it can be tough some mornings to get your motor running, so to speak, I find those are the hours that I’m most successful with my workouts. That may very well be the case for you too. Give it a shot for a couple of weeks and see if it better sets you up for success!

3) Make friends with those you workout with every week

This has been something that REALLY helps me on a weekly basis. I’ve been going to the same gym classes for nearly 4 years now and have really gotten to know the ladies in my class, along with our instructor(she also helped me train for my first full marathon a couple of years ago!). It’s really nice to have familiar smiling faces greet you when you walk in the doors. We chat, push each other to do our best and even meet up for coffee after our workouts on occasion.

The same thing goes with my personal trainer. We share what’s going on in our lives, have some laughs and it’s just such a fun atmosphere to be in. In fact. I’ll be heading to her house next week for a “cooking healthy” lesson. She’s going to teach me her magical ways of cooking turnips and mirlitons so I can stomach them. Ha!

So, I encourage you to get involved with a group of ladies who share the same fitness goals as you. That doesn’t have to mean joining a gym or hiring a personal trainer, it could be as simple as gathering up a few gal pals at a park each week and just enjoying being active together. Maybe create a rotating schedule where each of you are in charge of  “leading” the workout for the week to keep things fresh. Look up some simple workout routines online and bring them with you as you head out the door.

Just think of it, you could kill two birds with one stone….a workout AND a gab session with your besties! 🙂

I love that you treat your work outs as your most important to dos, and schedule meetings around them! I need to start doing that, as I get busier with my blog I find less and less time to work out! You’ve inspired me to get back on track 🙂

I’m always so close to buying Fabletics, but for some reason never hit “ship”. I’m loving that black outfit though… so I may finally have to complete the order!

This dress is so stinking cute! I love the cinched in waist. It’s perfect with those sneakers too! I spend most of my time in sneaks and yoga pants too. The dress is a nice change!
