All American

All American

With the 4th of July coming up in less than two weeks, I’ve been gearing up and getting into the patriotic spirit. For me, where fabrics are concerned, denim represents the very heart of America. It’s been around since the early 1700’s and while it started as a fabric for the working man, stars like James Dean, Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe brought it to the mainstream in the 50’s via their big screen performances. They made it both fashionable and highly desirable by Americans across the country.

And just like that, our love affair with denim began.

So often trends come and go….but on occasion something really sticks and becomes timeless in our minds — always remaining relevant.

I think this passage from Levi Strauss sums it up nicely:

In 1969 a writer for American Fabrics magazine declared, “Denim is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.” If continuous use of and interest in an item makes it “eternally young” then denim certainly qualifies.

Ok, history lesson rant over. 🙂

You may have noticed by now how much I love and enjoy a great romper. SO comfortable and easy to style. I was “window shopping” at Anthropologie a couple of weekends ago and stumbled on this one. The softness of the fabric is what got me. This thing is like wearing your pjs out of the house. No kidding. As soon as I buttoned it up in the dressing room I knew I wasn’t leaving without it. So funny because there are so many times I can’t seem to push the ‘go’ button on something that costs less than 20 bucks, but then I don’t hesitate to shell out quite a bit more on something I randomly found in a store. (Case in point as to why I try to stick with online shopping….I don’t impulse buy nearly as much that way).

But all that aside, I really am SO happy about bringing this romper home with me. I know I will turn to it on many occasions when I need something quick and easy. Spring, summer and fall…I’ll be taking it straight on through. 🙂
