Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ~Matthew 11:28

This is where I am this morning, friends. Weary. Lately, I feel like I’m giving everything all I’ve got and I’m just flat worn out. I can’t seem to get the balance back and I find I’m stressing over one task or another. I dropped the boys at school this morning, came home and just sat in the silence trying to rally and work up some more energy to go at it all again today.

After pouring myself some coffee and opening up my devotional app, I was struck with a very timely message. Man, was it spot on and meant for me today!

Timely messages…

The title was ‘The Sound of Silence’ and the message was a great reminder that the “white noise” that we’ve all become accustomed to in our daily lives (ie. the constant demands to do more and be more, the call of social media, etc) often keeps us from hearing God’s voice. Seriously, when is the last time you sat uninterrupted in a room without a single distraction for more than five minutes and just listened to hear from Him? I know for me, the radio is generally always on or I’m scrolling on my phone looking at something completely meaningless, or I’m mentally engulfed in how I’m going to do more, achieve more.

It’s exhausting.

I’m keeping it short today. I’m just going to follow suit on my daily devotional and pass along to you the exact words that were on the page:

Your life is too loud.

Your schedule is too busy.

Is that you today? It’s definitely me, I can tell you that. I know that God often speaks loudest when we’re at our quietest, so I’ll be making great efforts this week to go for quiet walks, sit outside just listening to God’s creatures chirping and waiting expectantly to hear from Him. I hope you’ll carve out some time to do the same.
