It’s time to start looking ahead a bit to early fall. Now, I’ll be the first to say that this can often seem tricky, especially if it stays hot where you are through October like it does here for us in south Louisiana.

My outfit recipe for a late summer/early fall look consists of 3 things.

1. Start warming up your color palette to a little less colorful and more toward darker tones.

I like to do this by making black or deep brown pieces the main focus of a look. Start thinking pumpkin spiced lattes, and fall leaves as color inspirations. You can still dress in summer styles if you simply warm up your color palette.

2. Throw a denim jacket over your shoulders or pair a utility jacket over a tank top or sundress to bring an otherwise very summer look into early fall.

If you don’t already own one (or a dozen, like me!) denim jacket, consider one of these to add to your wardrobe this season.

3. Switch out your sandals for booties.

This is always my favorite way to transition over to early fall. You can literally substitute any summer shoe with a good bootie. While I sometimes push it a bit by pairing tall boots with dresses and denim shorts, I feel like booties make more sense in the heat. They’ll be plenty of time for all those fun tall boots in the months to come!

Here are a few great options this season:

So, are you ready for all things Fall yet? I’ll go ahead and confess and tell you that I picked up my first can of pumpkin to bake with at Sprout’s today! I’m getting the itch!
