Elevated Holiday Travel Outfit Ideas

Ready or not, the busy holiday season is here! Where does the year go?

A large part of the holidays often involve travel, whether that’s to new destinations, to visit family or for business. Dressing comfortably for the flight while still attempting to look elevated can be a bit tricky, but I’ve got a few tips for you to make it a little less daunting this season.

From Capital to Capital. Nonstop.

If you’re traveling for business, resist the urge to overpack. One way to avoid packing too many items is to strategically choose garments that can be mixed or matched throughout your travel time and stay. Also, consider having your laundry done if you’re planning to stay longer than a week.

That said, business trips can often require quick planning and turn-around time and convenience can become a major factor. If you’re local here in the Baton Rouge area and are traveling to Washington, D.C., there are now early morning daily nonstop BTR flights to Reagan National Airport (DCA). There is a return flight from DCA to BTR every evening. These nonstop flights can be booked directly through American Airlines or by calling the American Airlines reservation center.

Because Your Time and Sanity is Valuable

Because holiday travel can be hectic and airports are so busy, flying out of BTR is the ultimate in ease and convenience. No long drives, no parking lot shuffles, no long waits at security. Expect competitive ticket prices as well. By avoiding the extra parking, gas cost (and time….hello, long check-in lines) it takes to drive to New Orleans, in a lot of cases you’ll actually come out ahead by opting for the nonstop BTR to DCA flights.

And if you’re flying from Baton Rouge to Washington, D.C. for fun, get excited for a great time!

If you’ve never considered a family trip to the area, there truly is so much to see and experience!

Here are a few things just to name a few:

  • U.S. Capital
  • White House
  • Lincoln Monument
  • Historical sites
  • World-class museums
  • Galleries

Washington, D.C. is also within driving distance to other fun destinations like:

  • Philadelphia
  • Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
  • Fredricksburg, Virginia
  • Ocean City, Maryland

Comfortable Layers are Going to Be Your Travel Besties

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that wearing light layers is always the way to go. Airports can be chilly and airplanes can often feel stuffy and warm. So not only will a cozy sweater or light utility jacket topper elevate your look, but it will be functional as well.

There are so many options now available for luxe casual travel pieces that feel amazing to throw on at any point when traveling. Consider wearing knit pieces, like the two piece sets I’m wearing in this post. While high end knit pieces are always a great investment, you can also find many affordable and (quick delivery) options from Amazon if you’re in a time crunch. And if you’re more of a jeans and blazer gal, look for options with some stretch to them. I love Spanx and Express for these types of bottoms.

Keep Your Feet Happy

We all know the misery of aching, blistered feet.

Hear me, ok? Don’t let this be you this travel season. There are too many cute and functional options when it comes to footwear to compromise style for comfort. From mules, to booties to sneakers, there are options for every look. If you’re traveling for business, consider slipping a pair of comfy ballet flats in your carry-on bag or purse.

Keep the Necessary things Easily Accessible

And perhaps the most important of all, be sure you have a safe and easily accessible place to house your necessary documents and papers during travel time. There is nothing quite like patting all your pockets trying to remember where you put your license or boarding passes. A carry-on bag that has a handy trolley sleeve to layer on your suitcase and convenient zipper pocket is perfect for this.
